WARNING: YOU NEED FANTASTIC WORLDS FOR THIS SCENARIO TO WORK! I CANNOT GUARANTEE YOU THAT IT WILL WORK WITH CIV2 MULTIPLAYER!

Introduction
------------
A Rise of Rome scenario? Well, yes and no. Most scenarios that take place in the Ancient Times deal with the Rise of the Roman empire (I hope to change this with my scenarios :)). See this scenario as a mixture of RoR and Ancient War scenario, with the main point on the latter.
This scenario is not my newest one, it has been published in May, but I guess not many people got to play it, as it ran into some strange bugs that made the whole scenario unplayable. I could not find any of the origins, and I also found out that different people had different errors. I also made this scenario under FW, but it could only be run under MGE/UCC. Thus, I had to completely remake the scenario. Therefore, it is a whole new scenario, however basing on the original, using same map, pics etc.
This is a quite difficult scenario, but it's not very long (54 turns), so it is suitable for a little entertainment for a lunch break or so.
A final note: The scenario goes from 149-145 BC, but the war ended in 146 BC. This was made out of gameplay reasons, and this scenario IS made to change history.

Civilizations
-------------
There are only three civs in this scenario, and I strongly urge you to play as the Carthaginians ONLY. The Romans are by far too strong, and the Greeks are only in for a trade partner.
The leaders are historically accurate, except for Andriskos as the Greek ruler, because he is the ONLY guy I found who lived in Massalia. He was, I guess a poet or philosoph or something in that direction.

Historical Background
---------------------
Following the death of Cato the elder, a famous Roman speaker, who is known for having ended all his speeches with the sentence "Ceterum Censo Carthaginem esse delendam" (Also, I think Carthage must be destroyed), the Romans decided to destroy Carthage completely.
This war was the third in a series of terrible, long and bloody wars, which all ended to the profit of Rome -which they had barely achieved towards the end, always-. The first and the second "Punic Wars" both lasted over 2 decades, and marked the beginning of some stunning conquests that should change earth's history.
Famous characters, such as Cornelius Scipio, Philipp V, Hieron II, Archimedes and Hannibal flourished during this time.
The Romans conquered Hispania (Spain), Sicily, all of Italy, Corsica, Sardinia and Africa (during Antiquity, Africa was the term used to describe modern-day Tunisia and a part of Algeria), and made themselves suprerior power in the world.
As mentioned above, the 3d Punic War was triggered by the death of Cato the Elder, but resulted from a long trade and economy embargo that the Romans had set. During the first two years, the Carthaginians fought well, being highly motivated and succesfully defended their lands. The tide turned however, after C. Laelius and Scipio the younger along with their Invasion forces landed on the African soil.
Two times before, the African ground was soaked with Roman blood, and both times, the invasion was unsuccesful. But not this time. The Romans met exhausted troops, and quickly managed to defeat them.
I have most of the history written in pop-up boxes that appear at several occasions in the scenario, so I won't write all that here again, sorry.
I have made a little chronology about the Roman-Carthaginian relations. You might want to have a look at it.

Installation
------------
As indicated above, I can only guarantee you that this scenario will work with
Fantastic Worlds. I cannot guarantee you that it works with MGE/UCC or ToT. It will not work with CiC or lower versions.
(I only put this note here because some people often ask me why a scenario doesen't work with their Civ2 version. In 90% of each case it is because they don't have FW, and the answer to the other 10% is described below.)
Create a folder under the Scenario directory, call it "3dPunic" or whatever, and move all the unzipped files in.
INSTALLATION FOR FRENCH; GERMAN AND OTHER LANGUAGES:
Sometimes, I receive eMails from people wondering why they fight with knights that have the abilities of STEALTH Bombers etc. This is because the people use different language Civ2 versions, and therefore need to translate the files. Here's how:
You need to rename the following text files (in this scenario):
-Rules.txt
-Game.txt
-Events.txt
-3dPunic.txt
-Pedia.txt

For use with, for example, the German version, they need to look like:
-Rules.ger
-Game.ger
-Events.ger
-3dPunic.ger
-Pedia.ger

How to translate the files: Open the specific file (for example Rules.txt), select "save as" from "File menu", and name the file Rules.ger. After that, the original files (Rules.txt etc.) are unessecary and you can delete them. Exception: Events.txt. The game needs this file to read the events.ger, .fre etc. You will also need to keep the original pedia.txt!
In the French version, all files need to be renamed in:
-Rules.fre
-Game.fre
-Events,fre
-3dPunic.fre
-Pedia.fre

I unfortunately don't know how it looks in the other languages, but I guess in the Spanish version its "*.spa" etc.
Other files, that are often used are:
-Labels.txt
-City.txt
-Advice.txt

Here is an advice of how to organize all the scenarios you download from the net:

-Create a folder under your scenario, called "Netscen".
-Move your scenarios in this folder (of course make a sepperate folder for them too)
-OR, create several subdirectories (Ancient, WW2 etc.)
This is how it would look:
c:\MPS\Civ2\Scenario\Netscen\Ancient\3dPunic
I admit that you will have to click a long way for your scenario, but at least you know where to exactly find it.

If you played "Artaxerxes-the Fall of the Spartan Hegemony", you might be dissapointed that there are no sound files in this scenario. Sorry, but I used some bases from the original scenario that made it impossible to put any sound effects in properly :(. I will include some with my next scenario(s) though.

Rules and Victory conditions:
-----------------------------
There is only one Military Goal in this scenario: Carthage (Karchedon). The Romans must conquer it (what else is new) to win. If the Carthaginians lose it, the game is lost! You'll see what I mean ;).
If you manage to conquer Syracusae, or Rome, and/or can hold ALL Carthaginian cities 'till the end of this scenario, Please send me an eMail along with the .sav file!

Tips&Tricks
-----------
Keep your military units away from futile attacks! You will need them later in the game!

You should build up a large fleet. This is the safest way of holding the Romans from landing on Africa in the early phases of the game.

Trade, Trade, Trade!

Beware of the Roman sneack attacks!

This scenario is pretty Tough to win.

The Carthaginians get Mercenaries some times. Use them, but wisely.

If you have money, take diplomats and buy some cities. This is the only way to get a grip on Italy.

Use Triremes to escort your transports. They're fast and marginally powerful. Use Pentremes as attackers.

Units
-----
Unfortunately, the Roman units won't appear in the Pedia. Here are the stats:

Roman Defender M0 A0 D5
Roman Legion M2 A8 D4
Praetorian Guards M0 A0 D18
Roman Cavalry M3 A4 D3
Chariot M3 A5 D3
Roman Infantry M1 A4 D2
Roman Invasion Forces M2 A6 D4
Scipio M3 A6 D3 Amphibious!
C. Laelius M2 A5 D3 Paradrops!

Roman Diplomats act like yours.
As an addition to that, Catapults can now make amphibious assaults (simulating the possibility of firing from ships).

Hasdrubal:
This unit is, as the name says, the Carthaginian general Hasdrubal. He appears only once and can't be reproduced. Be careful with him. He's quite powerful.
C. Laelius:
The Roman general. He's quite powerful and can paradrop.
Scipio:
The other Roman general. He is also quite powerful and makes Amphibious assaults.

The Roman Flag was sent to me by Allard Hfelt
I've got terrain graphics from Jess Balsinde's scenario 'Al-Andalus' and Icons from Harlan Thompson's 'Huge collection of Icons'. Some units wheren't made by me, but I can't tell you the Author. If you've made it, then tell me and I'll credit you here. The Carthaginian flag is based on a flag I found in Harlan Thompson's excellent 'Mongols' scenario. All other graphics (in units the ones carrying 'SH')(Icons: Phoenec. Trade routes, Hanno's voyage, Hamilcar's expidition, SPQR&Roman war academy) where made by me. You may use any of these graphics, as long as you don't erase my signature (Units) and a word of credit is given.
If you are using the FW icons editor, it will most propably erase the signature. If you can, please put it back on, or notice this in the Readme.
The title graphic is a carthaginian war galley.
